Past Sponsored Challenges - Can you set your own challenge? A team of epic explorers set off from the Neuromuscular Centre on Friday 14th August to take on the Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfell and Snowdon) in 24 hours. The conditions at Ben Nevis were most unusual for August - icy sleet met the team of 5, made up of Executive Director Matthew Lanham, Physiotherapist Nick Emery, Rachel Atkinson, Anna and Adrian Simon's and driver extraordinaire Howard Owen. Despite the sleet and 70mph winds the team got up and down Ben Nevis in 4 hours 40 minutes exhausted and having completed much of the climb in darkness. If the weather conditions at Ben Nevis had been atrocious the team were faced with worse yet at Scarfell and the appalling conditions in getting to the summit. Despite starting at 3.30am, Scarfell took almost 6 hours and now the team were behind schedule with the drive to Snowdon ahead of them. Compared to the previous 2 mountains Snowdon was only shrouded in mist but after the previous 2 it was easier, however Rachel had injured her knee getting down Scarfell so the ascent was made all the more arduous. Just before 5pm having not slept for 35 hours the NMC 5 reached the top of Snowdon and completed the challenge. There were other teams which gave up because of these exceptionally atrocious weather conditions and did not complete the challenge, and so for a group of largely over 40's they are quite rightly proud of themselves! Roberts Bakery who supported the NMC team was specially recognised at the top of the mountains, as you can see from the photo above! The Ding-a-Lings Cycle Ride 5th September The Ding-a-Lings, a small team of wanna-be cyclists, have successfully cycled 60 miles across Cheshire on the 5th September in aid of The NMC. Check out our route on the National Cycle Network - Route71. The route started at one of the highest points in the county at -Teggs Nose Country Park and extended down to the western most point in Cheshire overlooking the Welsh hills at Neston on the Wirral. Well done and a massive thank you to all The Ding-a-Ling for raising over £1500 for NMC
