Spirit of Christmas

Matthew Kelly once again played host to the NeuroMuscular centre's Spirit of Christmas concert in Chester Cathedral on Friday 2nd December. He was joined by a host of stars from television, film and stage, including Downton Abbey stars – Jim Carter and Lesley Nicol, Jessica Hynes (The Royle Family), Jodie Whittaker (St Trinian's and St Trinian's 2), Ken Colley (Star Wars), and John Shrapnel (Waking the Dead, Midsomer Murders).

Spirit of Christmas is in its 16th year and raised a fantastic £30,000 for the NMC.  It was a fabulous evening of readings and songs, and of course, plenty of champagne afterwards.

During the run up to Christmas, we launched our county-wide children's choir competition (sponsored by Dawsons Music) to find a choir to perform at the event.  This year's winning school was Ladymount Catholic Primary School in Pensby, Wirral.  The children were very excited to win, and after their wonderful performance had the opportunity to mingle with the stars and to get a few autographs. The school were also thrilled to receive a digital piano, kindly donated by Dawsons.

We were also delighted to welcome for the first time Abbey Gate College Chapel Choir, a 100-strong chorus, who were extremely well-received. The Band of the Cheshire Constabulary and their wonderful conductor David Woollam also performed, and were magnificent as always.

Thank you to everyone involved, particularly the performers for devoting their time to us for free.
