Spirit of Christmas 2014

Starting the festive season with a sparkle for the great and good of Cheshire was Spirit of Christmas 2014, held at Chester Cathedral on Friday 28th November; our annual concert of festive readings and music which raised an incredible £35,000 for the NMC.

We wagged n’ walked at Eastham County Park

On saturday 13th September, 25 friendly dogs and their owners took part in our final Wag'n'Walk of the year. A 2 mile sponsored dog walk around Eastham County Park in the sunshine to raise money for the NMC.

Collection at Booths Supermarket

A small team of volunteers held a collection at Booths supermarket in Knutsford on Saturday 23rd August. A huge thanks to Booths and the customers who helped raise £404 for the NMC’s services for people with muscular dystrophy. We couldn’t have raised such a magnificent amount of money if we hadn’t had the slot allocated by Booths and also our wonderful volunteers who gave their time so willingly.

Frozen at the NMC meadow

On Wednesday 6th August, we opened our fully accessible meadow area to the public for our very first Open Air Cinema event, showing the Disney hit Frozen on a huge film screen. 270 guests from Winsford and beyond joined us at the Centre during the afternoon for some fun before the film, including face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon modelling, a merchandise stall with all things Frozen, and a photo booth to have pictures taken with characters from the film.

NMC were invited by specialist neuromuscular consultant, Dr Christian De Goede, to take part in an event for families of young people with a wide range of neuromuscular conditions. The event at Chorley Hospital Education Centre was well attended by around 25 families.

NMC sharing expertise at Queen Square, London

Lynne Groves, Senior NMC Physiotherapist and Matthew Lanham CEO visited the team and facilities at this specialist London Neurology and Neuromuscular treatment hospital. The hospital is linked with the University College London Institute of Neurology and so represents a national centre of excellence in the assessment and treatment of those living with neuromuscular conditions.

Nightrider 2014

Nightrider is a completely unique experience, taking in the iconic sights of London by bicycle by night. This arduous 100km challenge attracted 4,000 participants on 7th June 2014, and amongst them were 16 brave NMC cyclists including our CEO Matthew Lanham, Community Fundraiser Kay Briggs, Physio Paul Orme and Business and Care Assistant Linda Owen.

On Wednesday 14th May, we welcomed our female supporters to our first ladies event of the year, with guest speaker Adam Partridge. Charismatic TV auctioneer Adam is one of the UK’s best known valuers of Antiques and Fine Art, so we were thrilled that he agreed to take time out of his exceptionally busy schedule to entertain us.

NMC Chair of the Cheshire West Adult Social Care and Health Stakeholder Group

On the 7th May our Chief Executive, Matthew Lanham, chaired the influential “Stakeholder Group” meeting drawing together all those key people and organisations working to provide Adult Social Care and Health services across the borough. This group is made up of senior adult Social Care Officers and members, Senior representatives from West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group and a myriad of fellow voluntary sector partners. With around 30 partners represented, this group is a key forum in the West of Cheshire with substantial influence over how a wide range of services are provided in the best collaborative way.

London Marathon 2014

6 brave NMC supporters took on one of the most prestigious and arduous challenges in the world, the London Marathon, on Sunday 13th April. Collectively they have raised over £23,000 for NMC with more sponsorship money still to come, which is an incredible achievement and we’re so proud of all of them.
