Spirit of Christmas 2014

Starting the festive season with a sparkle for the great and good of Cheshire was Spirit of Christmas 2014, held at Chester Cathedral on Friday 28th November; our annual concert of festive readings and music which raised an incredible £35,000 for the NMC.

Our Celebrity President Matthew Kelly hosted the glitzy and glamorous evening, and brought with him Emmerdale actor John Bowe, Malcolm Sinclair of Casino Royale fame, Simon Williams; best known for playing James Bellamy in the period drama Upstairs Downstairs, Philip Jackson who starred as Japp in Poirot, Karl Davies (Lyle Anderson in the TV series Kingdom and Alton Lannister in Game of Thrones), Anthony Howell (Sgt Paul Milner in Foyle's War), Debbie McAndrew (Coronation Street), Carol Royle (Doctors, Crossroads and Heartbeat) Sally Baxter (Albion Market) and award-winning BBC Merseyside Radio presenter Roger Phillips. As well as this talented bunch performing festive readings, also taking to the stage will be singers Olivia Brereton (Christine in Phantom of the Opera) and Iwan Lewis (Emmett in Legally Blonde).

We were delighted to welcome back the wonderful Robert's Bakery Band and The Queen's School Chamber Choir to get Christmas off to a cracking start. We also launched a county-wide Choir Competition for Primary School children between the ages of 7 and 11, kindly sponsored by Dawsons Music in association with Chester's Dee Radio 106.3. The winning choir was the King's Junior School in Chester, who performed at Spirit of Christmas 2014 in front of the 950 strong audience and will also receive a digital piano for their school.

Following the concert was a decadent Champagne and canapé Reception at the Cathedral Refectory for Gold and Silver ticket holders, with the opportunity to mingle with the performers. We held a raffle to win a luxury hamper, kindly sourced by Barclays, and sold 'meals for two' at £30 each, generously donated by local Restaurants. We also auctioned a signed copy of Mary Berry's Christmas collection, which was won by the Managing Director of the event's main sponsor, Scan Mobility.

Thank you to all our Sponsors and Advertisers, the Queen's School chamber choir, the King's Junior School, Robert's Bakery Brass Band, NMC staff and volunteers and of course everyone who bought a ticket for the event.
