Session 1 - Life with a Neuromuscular Condition

This session demonstrated that after being diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition life is still there for the taking. Whether it’s through education, being in employment or in your leisure time you can achieve and lead a fulfilling life. Andrea and Sanjay talked about the positive and fulfilling lives they lead and explained how they have adapted along the way to overcome challenges.

Session 2 - Positive Health and Wellbeing

Health and Well-being in Neuromuscular Conditions

The session focused on the role of timely, practical and preventative intervention in the management of a variety of neuromuscular conditions. It gave a broad definition of neuromuscular conditions and an overview of the health challenges faced by individuals with these issues. It highlighted the role of physiotherapy in the management of associated problems, such as pain and fatigue, and gave examples of best practice – such as collaborative goal setting and effective team working to spot health problems before they develop.

Session 3 - Sharing the life of someone with a Neuromuscular condition

This was an opportunity to hear and appreciate the experiences of people who share their lives with a person who has a Neuromuscular condition.

The speakers for this session showed the diversity of life when sharing it with someone with a long term condition - whether the person is family member, friend, or colleague.

Session 4 - When our lives change

'From the moment you receive a diagnosis of a Neuromuscular condition your life changes and continues to change then change again ......... '

One speaker was diagnosed in adult life. One speaker was diagnosed as a child. Both speakers have faced challenges. We heard how they have taken control of their lives and how experiences have shaped their lives.
