The Spirit of Christmas at Chester Cathedral raised an incredible £34,000!
For many in Cheshire, The Spirit of Christmas at Chester Cathedral signals the start of Christmas. This was our 24th spectacular star-studded event, with an array of popular television and film actors taking to the stage to perform festive readings.
The concert was hosted once again by our President Matthew Kelly, with readings performed by Pip Torrens (The Crown, Dr Who), Malcolm Sinclair (Casino Royale), Robert Glenister (Hustle), Kate Fahy (House of Eliott), Ian Bartholomew (Geoff Metcalfe in Coronation Street), Patti Clare (Mary Taylor in Coronation Street), Roger Phillips (BBC Radio Merseyside), Shelley King (Yazmeen Nazir in Coronation Street) and Selina Cadell (Doc Martin). We also welcomed soprano soloist Holly Teague.
We also welcomed back the phenomenal Roberts Bakery Brass Band and Abbey Gate College Chapel Choir. During the run up to the concert, we launched a Choir Competition for Primary Schools across Cheshire, Wirral and North Wales. The winners were Stapeley Broad Lane Primary School in Nantwich, who then performed for us on the night.
We are so grateful to all our performers, who give up their time for free to support this wonderful cause. Thank you also to Matthew and Sarah Kelly for being the driving forces behind this event, and to our incredible volunteers whom we simply couldn’t put on an event of this scale without. Finally, thank you to everyone for buying a ticket and supporting The Spirit of Christmas.
Tickets for our very special 25th Anniversary Spirit of Christmas will go on sale on 1st July 2020.
