NMC Carers Week 10th - 15th June 2024

We want to thank everyone in the NMC community for the care, love and support you always give every day.

During the week of 10th - 15th June 2024 we are inviting you to join us for a series of events and activities to celebrate our caring community.

We hope there’s something for everyone here and each event is open to all – we just ask that you please let us know you’re coming by contacting Denise on 01606 860911 or denise.boyall@nmcentre.com or Sarah – connectup@nmcentre.com.

We want you to take time for yourself, experience a break from all things routine, share some fun and laughter. All events are free, with the exception of our Jubilee Afternoon Tea on Saturday 11th June which is £5pp (including one free carer ticket), to contribute to the cost of catering and decorations.

Carers Week Events and Activities

We will be holding the following events and activities throughout the week which we hope you'll enjoy.

Monday 6th June

  • Fishing Day at the Old Hough Fishery in Middlewich: Come and join NMC’s popular fishing club for a relaxing day in peaceful surroundings with lovely company! Refreshments will be provided, and no previous fishing experience is necessary. From 9.30am onwards.

  • Gardening at NMC: If fishing isn’t for you, please join us at NMC’s Summer Marquee in the Meadow for our Gardening Day, where you can create your own hanging basket with our very own ‘Monty Deb’.

Tuesday 7th June - Spanish Day

  • 11am: We’re inviting you all to join us from 11am for conversational Spanish with Anne Duffy. Some of you may remember these popular introductory sessions to Spanish from pre-pandemic times. No prior knowledge of Spanish is needed, the group will be informal and fun-

  • 12pm: At midday, we’ll then gather for a Spanish themed lunch of delicious tapas, with the opportunity to relax and chat in the NMC Summer Marquee and our Meadow.

Wednesday 8th June

  • Book sale: We’ll be running a stall in our Summer Marquee for book swapping and buying, which will be available all day. Refreshments will also be provided.

  • BBQ 4pm: You’re invited to join us for a sumptuous Barbeque prepared by the NMC Therapies team, which you can enjoy in our peaceful meadow if the weather is warm (and the marquee if not!) We advise you bring your own picnic chairs and rugs if you’d like to enjoy alfresco dining. We anticipate this will finish by 6pm.

Thursday 9th June - Aqua Aerobics in the Hydro Pool

  • A unique opportunity to enjoy the benefits of exercise within the warm hydrotherapy pool at Hebden Green, led by our Therapies team.
You’ll get to choose from 80s dance, pop or rock workouts (this will be on a first come, first served basis).
Hydrotherapy is used as a treatment for a range of conditions. It has many benefits, including improved fitness, pain relief and improved balance.
The sessions promise to be challenging, yet fun, so we really hope you’ll join us!

Friday 10th June - Literary Fest

  • The day will begin at 11am with our popular NMC Book Club, which you’re warmly invited to join even if you aren’t part of our usual group!
We will then have talks from published authors within our community, who have very kindly given up their Friday to chat with us. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end.
    Refreshments will also be provided.

Saturday 11th June - Jubilee Afternoon Tea

  • Why not treat your friends and family to a celebratory Afternoon Tea in NMC’s Summer Marquee and Meadow?
Tickets are £5, with a complimentary ticket available for one carer.
Join us from 12pm – 4pm to continue the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations with a themed afternoon tea. You’re very welcome to dress up for the occasion!

Monday 13th June -  Art Day

  • We’re rounding off our Carers Week celebrations with an art-themed day, with the opportunity to learn how to tie dye! No artistic ability is required! Join us for the therapeutic benefits of art, the chance to express yourself and alleviate stress and anxiety.

NMC Is Here for Family Members and Carers Too

The NMC is here for family members and carers. We are here if you need any information, support or advice, or just fancy a chat.  Please call us on 01606 860911 or email carers@nmcentre.com.  We are always here to listen.

Carers Facebook Group

We have a private group just for our community of Carers. The link to join is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1098624770515572/

We recognise the importance of friendship, community and a reliable and well informed support network and we believe that the carers within our community are one of our biggest assets. We know that you are always there for your loved one(s), so let us be here for you, and (perhaps more importantly) lets be here for each other.

This group is safe space to share your thoughts and concerns and let your voice be heard. It is a place to seek advice from other people who truly understand, a place to share your frustrations and worries, and a place to let your guard down and make new friends.

It is a closed group, so only members can read your posts, and all membership requests must be approved by an admin. As a result, this will be a small, trusted and friendly group of people with a connection to the NMC.

Please join us for our Carers Week activities
